Teacher of Electrical Installation

0.25 fte, Fixed Term to July 2022

Shrewsbury Colleges Group is a designated Sixth Form College offering Sixth Form College terms and conditions. The college works with 3,600 16-18 year olds, 800 apprentices, 3,500 adult students and 400 higher education students. The college delivers A Levels at two campuses in the town centre, English and Welsh Bridge Campuses, and vocational and technical professional qualifications at the London road campus. As a result of significant growth in student enrolments and with record applications for September 2021, the college has the vacancies below.

Job Purpose

To undertake a variety of duties associated with: pedagogic work; staff development; curriculum development; research and consultancy; student guidance and welfare; management/administration.

Main Responsibilities

1.

 

Teach in the following subjects;

  • Electrical Installation theory and practice
  • 2382 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • 2391 Inspection and Testing

2.

 

Provide an input into a broad range of courses under the guidance of appropriate programme and course tutors

 

3.

 

Undertake normal duties with the student learning programmes e.g. preparation and marking, profiling, Records of Achievement, report and reference writing, registration, attendance records, statistical returns and other administrative tasks.

 

4.

 

Have available up-to-date syllabuses and schemes of work for all courses/classes taught.

 

5.

 

Set, mark and moderate examinations, assignments and tasks specified by examining bodies and to maintain records and report thereon as required.

 

6.

 

Attend and participate in course, Curriculum Area, College and other team meetings.

 

7.

 

Undertake specific College or Curriculum Area roles as required e.g. course tutor, area leader, personal tutor

 

8.

 

Assist in the development, planning and organisation of courses and participate in course review, monitoring and evaluation processes.

 

9.

 

Participate in marketing and promotional activities including liaison with employers and other outside bodies as required

10.

 

Undertake general academic and administrative duties related to the work of the course team.

 

11.

Assist in the organisation of work experience placements and monitor and supervise such students as required.

 

12.

 

 

Work flexibly, undertake training and development, and undertake such other tasks as may be required or directed from time to time to meet the needs of the College.

 

13.

Person Specification

Knowledge
Essential

  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma or equivalent in Electrical Installation
  • 2382 18th Edition
  • An awareness of the changing needs of students and changing methods of delivery being brought about by developments in the Curriculum.

     

    Desirable

  • Teacher training qualification / teaching experience
  • TAQA Assessing
  • 2391 Inspection and Testing

     

    Skills

    Essential

  • The ability to work in a team and to liaise with other professionals inside and outside the College
  • The ability to take responsibility for course administration and development
  • Excellent communication skills

     

    Experience
    Essential

     

  • Recent relevant, practical experience in the electrical industry

     

    Desirable

  • Served a registered Electrical Installation or Electrical Maintenance Apprenticeship

     

    Special Working Requirements

  • Flexibility, adaptability and initiative

 

We are looking for a qualified teacher or somebody with relevant experience willing to study for the teaching qualification which will be fully funded and delivered by the college.
